I am sure you have heard of the “18 Hour” Bra or at least have seen the commercials for the Playtex phenomenon that boasts to be so comfortable you can wear it for 18 hours. I am here to propose the idea however, of a quite different garment piece, that of the “20 second Bra”. Yes you have guessed it, this is a bra that one buys with the intention of keeping it on for……………..a bit less than 18 hours and that probably wouldn’t be funtional beneath your clothes anyways. Out with the Old…….New Panties for a New Year

Hanky panky thongs are SOOOO out right now. Ok, that is not entirely true (and probably will never be), but if you have been a Hanky Panky die-hard you should definately check out the new lingerie line called “Butterflies” by Claire Pettibone. The basic thong comes in just one size and two rises, same as hanky panky. It is similar in fit and comfort and the print is whimsical and fun. The line also includes various boyshorts, camis and other pieces. So get a little crazy and cheat on your HPs. I doubt you’ll regret it.

Women Expose their Bra Colors On Facebook- Impactful?

Early last week women started posting the color of their bras on Facebook allegedly to raise Breast Cancer Awareness. It seems to be unclear exactly where this “rainbow” chain of unmentionables began however according to an article last Monday in The Chicago Tribune, it was not initiated by Susan G Komen Foundation.

While I applaud this and any movement to increase awareness on any level and am intrigued by the rippled effect this social networking has seemed to have caused, I do wonder how in fact merely posting the color of ones bra does so???

Who is shopping for YOUR Lingerie?

Tuesday I wrote about my experiences with men and their shopping ………….. shall we say, adventures, in the lingerie department. In the past I have had my best friends’ boyfriends ask my advice on what he should surprise my friend with, however last week I was intrigued to hear someone else’s solution to finding the “perfect” gift. A woman was shopping for a lingerie ensemble. . She informed me that for birthdays, and holidays such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day, she and her best friend actually pick out the gifts for the other’s husbands that way ensuring that their best friend would get a gift that they would truly love. The obvious hangup here is the fact that the men/husbands put virtually no thought into the gift, just fork over the dough. What do you think? Would you rather receive a gift that you know was merely paid for by your honey, or would you cherish the present that came straight from his heart regardless of whether it’s your taste or not.

Men that Brave the Lingerie Zone

Working at a lingerie retailer, I get a bit excited in anticipation of the holiday seasons between December and February ’cause that is when the men start to trinkle into the department and I get my “giggles”. There are typically about 3 different behaviors of men that dare to enter the lingerie department to find that special gift for their significant other.

1. Knows exactly what he wants- sizes, styles, etc. Wants to get in and get out. A rare find.

2. Is so nervous to even be in the lingerie department that he sort of attempts to browse on his own but when approached bolts out of embarrassement. I have actually seen a man, bend over with his hands on his knees in an attempt to regain his breath he was so distressed by his venture into the “panty” area.

3. The third is my favorite: the male that wants enough to find something for his sweetheart, but trusts WHATEVER opinion his faithful salesperson can impart.

Also amusing to me are the various answers received when probing to figure out what sort of lingerie garments the men are looking for:

Me: What size is she?

Male: Well………..she looks like you.

Really? Apparently the vast majority of women in Chicago are a 32D size medium. Interesting…………………….

Me: What size bra does she wear?

Male: Ummmmmmmm Medium, definately medium……

Truelly, I feel if your honey is one of any of these three brave souls, he deserves to be commended for venturing into the jungle of lingerie that can seem particularly daunting to many men. 2010…… New Beginnings

It’s a new year! This month is a time of taking a look at your life during the past year and making decisions about your approach to life in the coming one. A time to get rid of any “emotional baggage” weighing you down from the past year, a time to rummage through the ‘ol wardrobe and admit what you wear and don’t, and of course a time to reaccess the “state” of your unmentionables.

Many might think that January is the calm before the storm of February’s Valentines Day rush in the lingerie realm of shopping, when in actuality, January is a popular time for women to take charge and overhaul their 2009 stretched out and faded lingerie and stock up for the upcoming year. Updating what you are wearing beneath your clothes can and will give you the fresh, renewed and “put together” feeling that will help you achieve the rest of your goals! What are your New Years resolutions?

Find Great fitting bras….. for Less!

Completing your bra wardrobe can admittingly get quite pricey. I dropped by Marshalls over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see many familiar great fitting bras by bra vendors such as Wacoal, Chantelle, Le Mystere and Calvin Klein Intimates. While these bras normally range between $50 and $100 the assortment at Marshalls ranged between $10 and $20!!! So stop on by here or other discount retailers such as TJ Max, Loehmans or even Filene’s Basement and stock up!

“Petite” Bras

Last week I suggested two options for adding a little ooooomph to the chest area. I would like to add an adendum for those readers of mine who still have trouble finding bras in an A cup or smaller. Petite bras are NOT bras for shorter women. Rather these are bras that actually come in the size AA which is smaller than an A. (Yes, just like batteries). A question I have received quite frequently from some rather “less endowed” customers is how to achieve the illusion of larger fuller breasts. There are two ways my friends. The first type of bra lifts from beneath. This is actually my enhancer of choice; often times called a “balconette” .

Nursing Bras- For all my Preggo Friends :)

Finding a good fitting nursing bra can be quite tricky. A nursing bra should fit similar to an everyday bra, meaning that the area of the bra between the cups should tack in the front to your sternum. Additionally, the underwire of the cups should completely encompass all of the breast tissue on each side of the breast. If you are not wearing a bra with and underwire, the seams that exist instead of the wire should be completely encompassing all of the tissue. Now while I am a boobologist I do not claim to embody medical expertise. Some doctors feel that an underwire is not appropriate for a nursing bra as the wire may tamper with the milk ducts in the breasts. Therefore in deciding whether to select a bra with underwire I would consult your doctor. An excellent nursing bra that I have come across is the Anita International Underwire Nursing Bra which will accommodate up to an H cup. Another common issue is what to do in the months before delivery. Your body is constantly changing, especially your breasts. I recommend that you buy a bra that is stretchy. It will most likely last you through your breast size changes and prevent you from having to buy multiple bras.
